(This article appears in Pete’s Story Room, under the heading: What do you do when Life as a Human Being is More Painful than Pleasant? Remember, thoughts are “things” with a reality of their own and each of us, an artist. With thoughts in the form of beliefs, attitudes, values and expectations, we paint the landscape of our lives. In other words, thinking, feeling, acting and reacting is where it all begins, from nothing to something, from dreams to reality. – Pete)

Explore Your Thoughts, Feelings, Actions and Reactions. They all have Meaning.

One night, in late 2003, I was in the process of turning my empty bus around in the dark parking lot at the end of my northbound run from Petaluma when, out of the blue, I, or some part of me, loudly shouted, how come I never think about how good I am, how much I do, and how well I do it? That’s right, I thought, I only react to my shortcomings and mistakes. What’s up with that? Why have I always been more concerned about how bad I am than how good I am, how little I do instead of how much I do, how poorly I do things instead of how well I do them? Cultural conditioning?

Even my dreams play into this negative belief structure. I can’t tell you how many dreams I’ve had about building bridges across deep chasms or waterways that were so flawed I couldn’t cross them without falling into one of the many holes I had left unfinished! My holey bridge episodes were extremely exasperating, to say nothing about trying to climb up to roadways whose soft shoulders kept turning into increasingly steep drop-offs while the sand kept getting softer and softer, making it impossible to gain ground.

Even rooftops played a role in reminding me of how inadequate, powerless, and unworthy I felt at times. Whether I was sitting or standing on the roof didn’t matter. On these frightening occasions, it seemed like the roof came to life with the intent to punish, injure, or kill me. I figure it was either that or my Greater Consciousness was telling me to wake up, wise up, and rise up to greater awareness and understanding. What do you think? You know what, I haven’t had a dream like this for a long time now. Maybe I’ve moved past the need for them. If so, hallelujah!

When I first said, I love myself, why didn’t I feel anything?

I began saying I love myself on a regular basis after my parking lot revelation described above. It took time but before long, my mind began to show me things about myself that I could love. Thinking I couldn’t or shouldn’t love myself was an idea that had been rattling around in my subconscious since early childhood. My mother used to say, “Anyone who loves themselves gets stuck on themselves.” Roadblock!

I assumed she was implying that once you decide to love yourself, no one else matters. At the time, I didn’t question her assumption outright but I do remember feeling a twinge of doubt about her take on this subject. However, there was always someone around to make this belief real, or at least, it seemed that way.

Why was I so shy and defensive around other people?

Maybe it had something to do with being told at the age of five that everyone was “born in sin” because Adam and Eve, from whom “we are all descendants, ate fruit from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil against God’s Command.” The nun teaching catechism immediately followed this bombshell with another one, “…and you can’t trust the flesh because it will always betray you.” Totally dumbfounded, I protested these claims and when she told me to shut up and pay attention, I turned my back on her for the rest of the class.

The next morning as we lined up outside her classroom, she asked me if I was ready to accept the teachings of the church. Looking her straight in the eye, I said, emphatically: No! In response, she pulled out a heavy-duty, eighteen inch wooden ruler she was hiding in her habit. Holding my forearm with one hand she beat my knuckles with it as hard as she could. When I couldn’t stand the pain any longer and began to cry in front of the other students, she stopped. Her mission was accomplished, or so she thought.

On the way home from school that day, I told my older brother, Dicky, what happened and said, I was never going back to that school again. The next day, I hid in the woods behind the church and when we got home after school, I told my mother what had happened the day before and that I was never going back there again. The next day, Dicky and I both attended the local public school.

When my new teacher asked me to stand up and introduce myself to the class, I did. Then I told the class what the Catholic school* was teaching their students and how they were treated when they refused to accept the church’s beliefs. Turning to look at my new teacher, I asked him how public schools treat their students. His face immediately turned red with rage. Pointing his finger at me, he yelled, “Sit down, shut up and do as I tell you! I’m the teacher and I know what’s best for you.” Wow, it seems I was really good at making people in positions of power angry with me. Was this all on me or was there something more hiding below the surface of our student/teacher relationship?

* For more details about my early religious and public school experience, and how it affected me in life, read What I Learned in Catholic School and My Recurring Superman Nightmare. Both experiences are related to the conflict I experienced in catholic and public school.

Why did I hate my crooked front teeth so much I wanted to destroy them?

I don’t know why I felt so angry, but at some level of consciousness I thought my teeth had the power to choose to grow in straight or crooked. I certainly treated them as if they did. Maybe I was using this one obvious flaw as a catchall for all the flaws I believed to be a part of who I was.

It didn’t help matters any that not only did my stepdad refuse to spend money on braces, my mother suggested I use a finger to push on the sharp point of my most crooked front tooth. I tried her remedy a few times and found that it was impossible to push on the sharp point of my tooth for more than a minute or two because of the pain it caused in my finger. Also, putting pressure on one tooth, several minutes at a time, several times a day will not straighten out a tooth that is crowded by other teeth on both sides and deeply embedded in gum tissue and bone. I don’t know what you think, but in my story having crooked teeth in your preteens was devastating in a culture that values beauty and perfection as highly as ours. I was devastated!

Based on late-life experiences and learning, I now believe that there are no accidents and that there are reasons for everything. If this is so, does it mean that my teeth grew in crooked for a reason? Perhaps. What about the nun beating my knuckles and the teacher yelling at me in public school? Were these experiences initiated and controlled by unseen forces to steer me down a particular timeline? Who knows? Without experiences like these, how else can we learn about the need for empathy and the pain and paralysis of self-pity- “poor little old me”?

Why was I so confused and fearful about how to be with other people?

I was confused and fearful about how to be with other people early on because I only knew several people who seemed able to love without judgment, who accepted others without condition. Everyone else seemed content playing the value judgment game of, “I win, you lose, I’m right, you’re wrong, I’m good, you’re bad, I’m rich, you’re poor, I’m white, you’re black, I’m tall, you’re short, I’m male and you’re female”, and on and on it goes. Feeling as if we’re being picked apart and judged all the time is not fun unless we like to get beat down.

How can anyone feel safe or trust others in a divisive world that looks for dirt to use against us, that divides and pits us against each other? Imagine that the accumulation of money, power, and privilege is our primary measures of success. Is it a good or bad choice? Think about it! If you measure success by the amount of money, power, and privilege you have, when is enough, enough? When do the means (how you get money, power, and privilege) stop justifying the end (more money, power, and privilege)? Without moral principles or responsible guidelines, isn’t it like driving a car without brakes?

What stands behind competition and the desire to be someone? Is it the desire to survive? Why do we compare ourselves to each other and look for approval at the same time? Isn’t it stressful? In an authoritarian world that believes in scarcity, competition, and survival of the fittest how can we exercise control over ourselves and each other without judgments based on right and wrong, good and bad, enforced by the shame of guilt and the fear of punishment? Oh boy, there is so much I want to say about why it’s time to outgrow this strategy!

Why did I feel unworthy and insignificant so much of the time?

My biological father died when I was four years old. He was forty-nine at the time and managed a small grocery store owned by his father. Rarely did he interact with my three brothers and me. A year after his death, my mother married a plumber who owned a racehorse. He was a nice man and took good care of us, but even as a young boy I knew about class status and both my dad and stepdad were near the bottom rung as blue collar workers. To me that meant my brothers and I, and my mother, were all near the bottom rung of society. I don’t know about the rest of my family but this discriminatory, class-conscious system made me feel unworthy and unwanted.

Here are several messages many of us receive during childhood. “Sit down, shut up and do as I tell you. I’m the teacher (parent, policeman, father, mother, etc.) and I know what’s best for you! Children should be seen and not heard. If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything. Curiosity killed the cat. What’s wrong with you?” You can probably think of a dozen more.

Whether these messages are conveyed through words, behavior, or organizational structure doesn’t matter. They exist, we know them, and they impact our behavior as they are meant to do.

Why did I feel like I wasn’t good enough?

When I asked my mother why she never complimented us (her children), she replied, “I don’t want you to get a fat head.” How many of us as adults feel the same way as my mother? As I mentioned earlier, I didn’t know how to support our children other than provide them with food and shelter, hug them, and go for walks with them. There was so much more I wanted to give our children as their father but I didn’t know how. Maybe that’s why so many of us review our lives later in life. We want to learn what we can from past experiences so we can do better in the future, whether it’s here or in other lives, if we have them.

Why did I think there was something wrong with me?

When you hear the question, “What’s wrong with you?” or you say, what’s wrong with me to yourself often enough, don’t you begin to believe it? After being told by the bible and Catholic Church that every person is born sinful and can’t be trusted, what do you do when you’re a kid? You’re only one person against millions.

Why did I hate myself and others sometimes?

Unless you consciously replace hate with love and understanding, hate begets more hate, until you wake up and see what you’re doing, not only to others but to yourself as well.

As a young man, why was I angry with so many people in positions of authority?

Abuse of power. Not everyone seeks a position of authority because they want to serve others. Some do it to serve themselves and feel like they’re somebody. The feeling of power is a great motivator for some. Then again, many of us already know we’re somebody and don’t feel any need to prove it to ourselves or others.

Why didn’t I know what to tell my children when they were growing up and needed help?

I didn’t agree with much of what I was told growing up and had too little time and too little experience to figure it out on my own. As you know, the demands and expectations of life are many. As a result, I didn’t know how to talk or what to say to my children. Flying by the seat of your pants is a disturbing feeling when it comes to marriage and raising children. Also, it doesn’t help to be told that you’re bad. If you’re bad, how can you expect to be good? Again, how can you create what you like unless you know what you don’t like?

Why did I love animals more than people?

People judge others and animals don’t. They either like you or they don’t. I believe people would act the same way if they weren’t taught to think in terms of right and wrong, good and bad. Accepting myself as a Being of Aware Energy, or Consciousness, I feel there is no longer a need for judgments of right and wrong, good and bad, enforced by the shame of guilt and the fear of punishment.

When we come to believe that there is no right or wrong, good or bad; there just IS, Being and Creation becomes a matter of learning the difference between what we like and don’t like, what works for us and what doesn’t, what makes us happy and what doesn’t, in our oneness with and separation from All That Is, as both products of creation and creation itself. There is no longer a need for scapegoats, people or organizations to blame or point the finger of blame at. We only take action when it is all on us.

When we choose to learn from our experiences instead of judge ourselves by them, we automatically take responsibility for the reality our beliefs, attitudes, values and expectations create. As a result, we change them whenever we need to. From then on, life becomes a matter of living by value fulfillment and practicing idealism, doing the best we can with what we know and learning more to do better. By removing all limiting and conflicting beliefs that keep us from being the selves we love to be, we become our True Selves.

As Beings of Aware Energy, or Consciousness, when we acknowledge that we’re not only separate from All That Is, we’re also one with it, we greatly increase the range of possible and probable experiences available to us. The same thing happens when we acknowledge that we’re not only products of creation; we’re creation itself. Accepting and understanding our role as creators of our personal reality and co-creators of our shared reality, we again broaden our horizons.*

* Genesis – A Lucid Creation Dream. Change happens much easier in dreams and visions than waking reality due to material density. In this dream of exploration, I repeatedly entered into new experiences by creating dangerous situations. When things became dangerous, I changed my mind to remove the danger. It was similar to turning a switch on and off. Only in this case, I was changing my thoughts and feelings from one state to another, as well as those of the creatures I encountered. The message one minute was “enemy” and the next, it was “friend.”

All That Is thinks, feels, acts and reacts; therefore, we ARE. As we think, feel, act and react, we create. To change what we create, we change what we think and feel, how we act and react.

All the while, I believed in a different story than the ones we tell ourselves as human beings. Until recently, I didn’t know what that story was.

First, we must ask ourselves, how can we accept stories like the “Big Bang” that tell us we’re the result of a large cosmic explosion of condensed matter that just happened to contain the right elements, in the right proportions, and the right “random” collisions of these particles so as to form the universe as we see and experience it now? And what about the Story of Creation in the bible? If “God” created heaven and earth and all the life upon it, who created Him, and why are we only apart from him and not also a part of him, with our own developing powers of creation? Strangely enough, the nun in the catholic school I attended told my class that “all of humanity is born sinful because Adam and Eve ate fruit of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil against God’s command.” She also went on to say: “…and you cannot trust the flesh because it will always betray you.”*

* (For more insight into this subject, read What I Learned in Catholic School and My Recurring Superman Nightmare. Since writing about these two experiences and many others, it occurred to me that there might be more to life than meets the eye. Are we all working together to expand our awareness and understanding to evolve into something more than we are now? I think so. What about you?)

What if, instead of letting ourselves be influenced by frightening stories like the Big Bang that tells us we’re the result of a cosmic accident that could disappear us just as quickly and randomly as we first appeared, or a Story of Creation that tells us we’re the flawed creations of some God, in need of being straightened out by His human representatives, we come up with something better than this? Why don’t we write our own story, one that inspires us to excellence, one that appreciates how good we are, how much we do, and how well we do it, one that can see us doing the best we can with what we know and learning more to do better? For me, this is what works best and makes me happiest, in my oneness with and separation from All That Is, as both a product of creation and creation itself. What works best and makes YOU happiest in your oneness with and separation from All That Is, as both a product of creation and creation itself?*

* Seth on Christ’s Message. I love this article! Here, Seth talks about how Christ’s message in the past was far more progressive than it is now.

Consciousness, or Aware Energy, is the source and substance of All That Is

In the beginning, there was nothing – until Nothing realized it was Something! After all, how can “nothing” exist without Something to define it? Sound hokey? Yeah! But it makes sense to me, so I’m stickin wid it! Suddenly, with this one shocking revelation, nothing, which was now both Nothing and Something, came to life, making it possible for Anything and Everything to exist! Haven’t you ever had an “ah ha” experience?

This profound event can be defined as the Birth of Original Thought, the Divine Spark of Creation, the First Vibration of Awareness and Action, the First Impulse to Be and Create, the First Response to the Promise of Being and Creation, the Birth of Unconditional Love, the Birth of All That Is, the Birth of One and Zero (1 and 0, on and off, yes, no, and maybe, oneness and individuality, self and other), the Birth of God, Allah, or the concept of a Supreme Being.

We can also think of this defining moment as the Birth of Consciousness or Aware Energy, whose nature it is to conceive and perceive – to think, feel, act and react. In theory, it was, and is, ALL these things and more, including the moment Aware Energy or Consciousness learned how to condense a portion of itself into what we, in human form, call “matter.”

Even from a human perspective, “matter” is an illusion formed by thought and feeling, action and reaction. According to scientific research, a hydrogen atom is 99.9999999999996% empty space. Why don’t we fall right through each other? Because electrostatic fields that attract and repulse each other provide our biological senses with the illusion of density or “solid” matter.

To borrow the immortal words of Neil Armstrong and the US Space Administration, accepting the idea that Energy possesses Awareness, or Awareness possesses Energy, “is one small step for man and one giant leap for mankind.”

Got your Einstein detective hat on and your magnifying glass out? Consider this: without Energy or the power to act, how can Awareness know and express itself? And without the presence of Awareness, what defines and creates a need for Energy? Doesn’t one need the other for ANYTHING and EVERYTHING to exist?

So, cast off your cloak of limiting, earthbound thinking and open your heart and mind to greater awareness and understanding. Start by asking yourself a few questions. For example, what are thoughts? Where do they come from and where do they go? What are feelings? Where do they come from and where do they go? Where is the “you” that existed two minutes ago? Where did it go and in what form does it exist now, other than living, changing memory with a life of its own? Where is the “you” that will appear two minutes from now? In what form does it exist other than potential energy in the process of being shaped by past, present, and probable or possible versions of who you can be, before it becomes “you” in the present? What about the earth? Outside of Now, in what form does it exist?

Assume for a moment that everything, including you, is a Multidimensional, Vibrational Being of Aware Energy suspended in an infinite field of Aware Energy. How does it feel to think about yourself in this way? As a Multidimensional, Vibrational Being of Aware Energy, how would you describe your experience in Being and Creation (in life as well as dreams)? To give you a nudge, here’s how I define myself in those terms.

I think, feel, act and react; therefore, I AM. (expanded version of “I think therefore I am” by Rene Descartes)

As I think, feel, act and react (conceive and perceive), I create.

To change what I create, I change what I think and feel, how I act and react.

As a Multidimensional, Vibrational Being of Aware Energy, I am both one with and separate from All That Is. I am not only a product of creation; I am creation itself!

The self (the thinking, feeling, choice-making and action-taking intermediary between inner reality, the body, and outer reality) is my seat of power.

The present is my point of power.

Being and creating what I value is the promise of power.

Being and Creation are the manifestations of power.

Being and Creation make the invisible, visible and the unknown, known, driven by the impulse to create order out of chaos and make sense out of nonsense.

To be, we must create. To create, we must be. One creates the other in an endless dance of quantum entanglement.

Whether we are individual Aware Energy or Consciousness Units (AEUs or CU’s) or complex gestalts (organizations) of AEUs, like human beings, it works the same. To create what we want, the outer self, ego, or self-identity, pushed from within by the Impulse to Be and Create and drawn from without by the Promise of Being and Creation, the Beating Heart of Consciousness, must learn the difference between what it likes and doesn’t like, what works for it and what doesn’t, what makes it happy and what doesn’t. In other words, to create what we want, we must know what we don’t want.* Therefore, it is all good because, as eternal beings of thought and feeling, action and reaction, there is something to learn from everything. Like a dream, death in one form gives birth to life in another.

* Excerpt from We Create Our Own Reality:

The challenge of being and creation is learning how to use the power of thought and imagination to shape the energy of ideas into a pleasing reality. The prize is a sense of satisfaction, the feeling of a job well done. Like learning how to walk or talk, it is a personal, subjective endeavor that requires creative aggression. It is a balancing act that makes falling part of learning how to stand.

Remember: Thoughts are “things” with a reality of their own and each of us, an artist. With thoughts in the form of beliefs, attitudes, values and expectations, we paint the landscape of our lives. Create a great day!

The value of an idea is in the reality it creates

…and what we can learn from it.

If thoughts, in the form of beliefs, attitudes, values and expectations, create our reality, don’t we want our children to know and understand this? Don’t we all want to know and understand this? Like us, how can they improve themselves or their behavior if they don’t look for or see the connection between what they think and do and their experiences in life? Letting others think for us may be necessary for a while but isn’t developing the ability to think for ourselves the next step evolution?

Overcoming the fear, uncertainty, conflict and limitation of an authoritarian framework of beliefs is not easy but without the ability or desire to develop greater awareness and understanding, how can we become what we value most? How can we become our true selves, the selves we love to be?

For reference, here is what Seth has to say about “the beginning”. It’s an excellent piece! Seth – In the Beginning, There Was No God

Understanding the Nature of Being and Creation is the Ultimate Frontier!

At the age of 36, I was so unhappy with myself and life I was at my wit’s end. In early December, 1977, my growing depression turned into a severe panic attack. My wife, children, and I were shopping in Macy’s in the Stonestown Galleria Shopping Mall in San Francisco. For whatever reason, discomfort quickly turned into the feeling of being an utter failure as a person, husband, and father. All I wanted to do was sit on the floor in the middle of Macy’s and cry. I didn’t, but it was what I (my body?) wanted to do.

Several days after this incident, Sandra asked me what I wanted for Christmas. I said nothing because she was the only one working at the time. She insisted on getting me something so I put together a list of six books for her to choose from. They were all metaphysical books and very popular at the time.

Even though she shopped at two of the largest bookstores in San Francisco, she couldn’t find any of the books on my list. (Did someone unseen have something else in mind for me?) Caught between giving up and wanting to find something she thought I might like, her eyes kept exploring the covers of the books around her. Finally, they stopped on one book that stood out from the rest. It was Seth Speaks – the Eternal Validity of the Soul.

For some reason, she felt a connection with the image of Jane Roberts channeling Seth on the cover of Bantam Book’s purple paperback edition of Seth Speaks. An author herself, Jane also served as a channel for Seth, a non-physical entity, who dictated his books through her. I am so glad Sandra bought this book. It is the best present I have ever received, apart from her and our children, Crystal and Evan. That entire Christmas turned out to be the best one I’ve ever experienced!

After opening Seth Speaks, I couldn’t put it down. At last someone was talking about us in a way that made sense to me. He sees things in us we either don’t see, or ignore, because they don’t fit inside the “official” worldview. If we don’t perceive things through our biological senses or they can’t be understood logically, they don’t exist. In this reality, dreams, visions, channeling, out-of-body experiences, remote viewing, near death experiences and lucid dreams that seem as real as experiences in this reality, don’t exist because others can’t see them or repeat them. It’s a specious (empty) argument because we all have our own unique preferences. No two experiences are exactly alike just like no two snowflakes are the same even though they’re made of water or the same stuff.

Thankfully, this is beginning to change. Many of us are opening up and sharing our hidden thoughts, feelings, and experiences. Somehow, we’re finding the courage to wake up, wise up, and rise up to greater awareness and understanding and we’re not doing it alone. Everything is conspiring to help us move past the need for control from the outside in. We are becoming adults and transforming into something more than we have been.

It may seem frightening but, deep down, we know it’s the path we are on. It’s the only way the individual and collective consciousness can fulfill its greatest possible potential. A period of authoritarian control and oppression is necessary for All that Is to develop. How else can we learn the difference between what we like and don’t like, what works for us and what doesn’t, what makes us happy and what doesn’t? Like grown children everywhere, we must learn how to accept responsibility for the consequences of our thoughts and actions because, every thought is a suggestion, a blueprint for action and every action is a choice with consequences we like or don’t like, and everything else in between. It’s the only way to know what we want and how to create it.

Where did my fear, anger, and depression come from? They came from everyone, including me, that told me I was bad and that I can’t trust my thoughts or my “flesh” because “they will always betray you.” Quote from the nun in catechism. For more on this, read What I Learned in Catholic School. For an example of how inner consciousness helps us evolve past our most difficult challenges, read: My Recurring Superman Nightmare. It went on for years until I finally stood up and overcame oppressive forces in my life that were holding me back. It wasn’t a bad thing. It was a good thing!

Seth made me feel free to be me. He also reminded me that we are both one with and separate from All That Is, we are both products of creation and creation itself. I didn’t make Seth’s ideas my own. Deep down, they were my own! What he did was remind me of that.

…and what we can learn from it.

How Consciousness Creates Reality

In my favorite worldview, All That Is thinks, feels, acts and reacts; therefore, we ARE. As we think, feel, act and react, we create. To change what we create, we must change what we think and feel, how we act and react. Can you think of any other way, short of violence?

For a great example of how consciousness shapes us and our experiences, read Genesis – a Lucid Creation Dream. When we accept ourselves as both products of creation and creation itself, we begin to learn about what it means to be a conscious creator as opposed to being a passive victim of creation. This dream clearly shows us how powerful we are, or can be, in controlling the unfolding of our experiences, not only in dreams but waking reality as well. For more on the nature of being and creation, read The Ball of Light – A Lucid Dream about the Nature of Being and Creation. It takes you on another tour of inner consciousness, how it works, and what it does in helping us evolve into something more than we are now.

It also supports the idea that we are multidimensional, vibrational Beings of Aware Energy or Consciousness. If this is so then, is Consciousness, or Aware Energy, both the Source and Substance of All That Is? I think so.

Examples of how Consciousness, or Aware Energy, creates reality:

Consciousness, or Aware Energy, is the Source and Substance of All That Is.

It creates EVERYTHING by exploring the differences between nothing and something.

It creates INDIVIDUALITY by exploring the differences between us.

It creates ONENESS by exploring the similarities between us.

It creates TIME by exploring the differences between now and then.

It creates SPACE by exploring the differences between here and there.

As consciousness, or aware energy,* explores the differences between what it likes and doesn’t like, what works for it and what doesn’t, what makes it happy and what doesn’t, it creates new dimensions in which All That Is can express itself. Wow, talk about power!

* Thought, feeling, action and reaction. This is what it’s all about, Alfie!

Every thought is a suggestion, a blueprint for action, and every action is a choice with consequences we like or don’t like.

Let Love and Understanding be the Light and Your Way

We’re born into a world dominated by authoritarianism. It is a value judgment world of right and wrong, good and bad, enforced by the shame of guilt and the fear of punishment. It is designed to control us from the outside in. To help us, one of the most powerful things we can do is remember that we’re all doing the best we can with what we know and learning more to do better. It also helps to remember, and appreciate, how good we are, how much we do, and how well we do it. It also helps to remember that the more reasons we can find to love ourselves, the more reasons we find to love others.

Imagine the most despicable man you can think of in the world today. What do you want most for him? Do you want to see him punished for his crime to even the score, or do you want to help him love and understanding themselves enough to see a larger picture of who they are and who they can be, one that is worth saving? With love and understanding we can see how challenging Being and Creation is for All That Is. We can also see that we’re not here just to be; we can see that we’re here to live, love, learn and evolve, or something very close to this. When we let love and understanding be the light and our way, we realize how challenging Being and Creation is for everyone and everything. Without the pressure of difficult challenges, how can we grow and fulfill our greatest possible potential in the universe of All That Is?

(Part 2 from Pete’s Story Room, under the heading: What do you do when Life as a Human Being is More Painful than Pleasant? Here are four major belief systems or points of view. Each one plays a role in the creation of our reality, depending on the level of attraction or repulsion we feel for each one, individually and collectively:

Dominionism: Earthbound. Extreme Dominionism believes in Supreme Authority and Absolute Ownership. “It’s all me and no we, it’s my way or the highway.” Exclusive and Authoritarian.

Stewardship: Earthbound. Less me and more we. “Sit down, shut up and do as I tell you! I’m in charge and I know what’s best for you.” Less Exclusive and less Authoritarian.

All in this Together – Partners in Evolution: As multidimensional, vibrational Beings of Self-Aware Energy, or Consciousness, we are here and everywhere, living, loving, learning and evolving, in our oneness with and separation from All That Is, as both the result of creation and creation itself. Inclusive and Boundless.

The Hidden Reality behind all Reality is the source of all possible and probable thoughts and feelings, actions and reactions, before individualized forms of Self-Aware energy or Consciousness learns how, and chooses to transform them into more tangible forms of expression: Inclusive and Boundless.

Thoughts are “things” with a reality of their own and each of us, an artist. With thoughts in the form of beliefs, attitudes, values and expectations, we paint the landscape of our lives. In other words, thinking, feeling, acting and reacting is where the journey begins, from nothing to something, from dreams to reality. – Pete)

In the Story of Creation, Chapter 1, Verse 28, in Genesis, which appears in the Christian Bible, the Jewish Torah, and the Islamic Quran: God said to Adam and Eve: “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth and subdue it; and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the air and over every living thing that moves upon the earth.”

With this one proclamation, the idea of Dominion, with all of its possible and probable interpretations, is brought to the fore in human consciousness as we know it on earth.

Domain: (all me and no we?)

2. law: supreme authority: SOVEREIGNTY, having dominion over the natural world.

3. law: absolute ownership.

Synonyms for dominion:

ascendance (also ascendence), ascendancy (also ascendency), dominance, domination, hegemony, imperium, predominance, predominancy, preeminence, reign, sovereignty (also sovranty), supremacy.

Where do these ideas or suggestions take your imagination? Do you like the idea of having supreme authority and absolute ownership over everyone and everything else around you? Do you like to think that you’re smarter and more powerful than others? What kind of person would you be and what kind of world would you create if you adopted these ideas as gospel in your life, without question or limitation?

In Chapter 3, Verse 16:, God said to Eve, after she had eaten fruit from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil against God’s command:* “I will greatly increase your pangs in childbearing; in pain you shall bring forth children, yet your desire shall be for your husband, and he shall rule over you.”

(* To me, it seemed more like God wanted Adam and Eve to eat fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil because he told them exactly where it was, “next to the Tree of Life (eternal life) in the center of the garden” and then said: [2:17] but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall die.” I don’t know what you think but this sure sounds like reverse psychology, which brings up more questions.

Was God unhappy with the idea of Adam and Eve being mindlessly obedient? Did he want them to be something more? Did he want them to experience the road of hard knocks like Him so they could be equals? Without creative aggression, how can they fulfill His desire for them to: “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth and subdue it; and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the air and over every living thing that moves upon the earth?”)

In Chapter 4 of Genesis, God Introduces a New Dimension to Human Behavior

After Cain and Abel grew up [Chapter 4:1-4:16], “Cain [4:3] brought to the LORD an offering of the fruit of the ground, and Abel [4:4] for his part brought of the firstlings of his flock, their fat portions. And the LORD had regard for Abel and his offering, [4:5] but for Cain and his offering he had no regard.”

As a result of God’s reaction or non-reaction, one son is pitted against the other. To make their polarization even more intense (?), “The LORD [4:6] said to Cain, Why are you angry, and why has your countenance fallen?” Later, Cain kills Abel. God knows it and shames him. [4:8] Cain said to his brother Abel, “Let us go out to the field.” And when they were in the field, Cain rose up against his brother Abel, and killed him. [4:9] Then the LORD said to Cain, “Where is your brother Abel?” He said, “I do not know; am I my brother’s keeper?”

(Are these changes in thought and feeling good or bad things, or are they challenges chosen by us and our souls to further our development as Beings of Aware Energy in our oneness with and separation from All That Is, as both products of and creation itself? Are we different aspects of God becoming?)

[4:10] And the LORD said, “What have you done? Listen; your brother’s blood is crying out to me from the ground!
[4:11] And now you are cursed from the ground, which has opened its mouth to receive your brother’s blood from your hand.
[4:12] When you till the ground, it will no longer yield to you its strength; you will be a fugitive and a wanderer on the earth.”
[4:13] Cain said to the LORD, “My punishment is greater than I can bear!
[4:14] Today you have driven me away from the soil, and I shall be hidden from your face; I shall be a fugitive and a wanderer on the earth, and anyone who meets me may kill me.”
[4:15] Then the LORD said to him, “Not so! Whoever kills Cain will suffer a sevenfold vengeance.” And the LORD put a mark on Cain, so that no one who came upon him would kill him.

For consciousness, or aware energy, to do the work of making the unknown, known and the invisible, visible; for it to create order out of chaos and make sense out of nonsense, godlike work, does it need reasons to be motivated? Is this why we find God (Unconditional Love, ourselves?) seeding the earth, and our minds, with ideas and stories that result in both pleasure and displeasure. As God and humanity discovered in the Story of Creation, if we buy into this storyline, giving men absolute power over the earth, corrupts them absolutely, or close to it.

When human law turns God’s idea of Dominion, assuming it is and was well-meaning, into supreme authority and absolute ownership has mankind crossed the line to the dark side of dominionism where ideas like greed, jealousy, hate, discrimination, murder and the desire for personal survival at the expense of others, flourish? As cruel as it may seem on the surface, only by experiencing what we don’t like can we define and create what we do like. Can you see that? Can you feel it?

In Chapter 6, Verse 5, The LORD saw that the wickedness of humankind was great in the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of their hearts was only evil continually. (Does the “Lord” see that He played a role in this drama? Should he?) If He doesn’t accept responsibility for the consequences of His thoughts and actions, who will? How will All That Is evolve?

[6:6] And the LORD was sorry that he had made humankind on the earth, and it grieved him to his heart.

In [6:7], the LORD said, “I will blot out from the earth the human beings I have created – people together with animals and creeping things and birds of the air, for I am sorry that I have made them.”

So, what is the natural outcome of a world and its people when men alone are given the right of “absolute ownership” and “Supreme authority” over every other living thing, including other men? Keep in mind that it is not a matter of black and white. There is a large range of people and ideas that can be associated with the idea of dominionism. While some see dominionism as a way to serve themselves, others see it as a way for them to serve others.

Suppose that Aware Energy, or Consciousness, wants to fulfill its greatest possible potential. How can it do that without being free to explore All That Is and All That can Be? Let love and understanding be the light and your way. As we think, feel, act and react, we create. To change what we create, we must change what we think and feel, how we act and react. Keep asking yourself, what works best and makes you happiest and don’t forget to remind yourself that, as a multidimensional, vibrational being of aware energy, or consciousness, you are both one with and separate from All That Is. You are both a product of creation and creation itself.

What are we trying to teach ourselves? What do we want to learn? Are we responsible for questioning the beliefs, attitudes, values and expectations we use to create reality, individually and collectively? Dominionism, as it is practiced by many, is an “I win, you lose” game with personal survival being its most precious value. A strong sense of entitlement comes in second, which may explain why those who are strongly attracted to the idea of dominionism are always accusing others of what they do to divert attention away from themselves.

What do you think of Dominionism, supreme authority and absolute ownership, and what role do you think it plays in the overall drama of your life? Can someone who believes in the idea of Dominionism apply it in a positive way? Doesn’t history tell us that some leaders do far more good than harm? If we’re meant to learn and evolve from our experiences, isn’t it important to understand the role of thoughts, feelings, actions and reactions in the creation of reality? Is one person, or a small number of people, owning and ruling everything, extreme? Is it fanatical?* Where is the balance in this? In this highly authoritarian system of beliefs when is enough, enough? When do the means (whatever it takes) stop justifying the end (the accumulation of unlimited money, power, and privilege)?

(* Seth on Fanaticism, Parts 1, 2, and 3. Seth goes into great detail in defining the nature of fanaticism.)

What is the purpose of ideas like Dominionism and Stewardship? Are they challenges we must learn from to be better and do better? As a being of aware energy, or consciousness, what do you think it will take for us to fulfill our greatest possible potential?*

* Ruling Bloodlines and the Family – the Hidden Hand, Part 1.

This article describes the history and need for authoritarian rule in the mix of life. Without the freedom of unlimited choice, how can consciousness explore and discover the difference between what it likes and doesn’t like, what works for it and what doesn’t, what makes it happy and what doesn’t? How else can it create what it wants? How else can it fulfill its greatest possible potential?

In chapter 6, verse 6, above, you will see that God was very unhappy with His first experiment. As the storyline goes, He was so unhappy, He destroyed all living things upon the earth, except for Noah, his family, and male and female pairs of all the animals on earth.

[6:8] But Noah found favor in the sight of the LORD. (Which brings us to God’s next experiment, Stewardship.)

Here is the current, online Merriam-Webster definition of stewardship:

Stewardship: (Less me and more we?)

1: the office, duties, and obligations of a steward
2: the conducting, supervising, or managing of something, especially, the careful and responsible management of something entrusted to one’s care, (like) stewardship of natural resources.

Synonyms for stewardship:

Administration, care, charge, conduct, control, direction, governance, government, guidance, handling, intendance, management, operation, oversight, presidency, regulation, running, superintendence, superintendency, supervision.

It’s not mentioned specifically but it’s easy to see that the management of people is clearly included under ideas like “stewardship” and “government.”

By charging Noah and his family with the responsibility of building an Ark and gathering all male and female pairs to repopulate the earth after “forty days and forty nights” of rain, he gives birth to the idea of “Stewardship.” In other words, God seems to have liked Caine’s idea, when he asked God if he was supposed to be his brother’s keeper, is making us our “brother’s keepers.”

If we define stewardship as caring for and helping others because we can, that is compassion. However, when we choose to see stewardship as a ticket to personal wealth, power, and privilege, to see ourselves as “somebody, better than others”, we are Dominionists in Steward’s clothing. Stewardship is a step up from the sometimes ruthless and brutal treatment of others under the banner of absolute sovereignty and absolute ownership; however, both belief systems are based on authoritarianism, the idea that one person is of more value and, therefore, more privileged than the other.

Both Dominionism and Stewardship depend on value judgment, ideas of right and wrong, good and bad, enforced by the shame of guilt and the fear of punishment. It is a system of ideas that assumes that what we are is bad, and if we’re bad, we must be controlled from the outside in. Value fulfillment, on the other hand, provides us with another way to think about ourselves. Unlike value judgment that assumes we’re bad, value fulfillment assumes we’re good.

In a value fulfillment world of what works best and makes us happiest, in our oneness with and separation from All That Is, as both the result of creation and creation itself, we don’t judge ourselves by our experiences, we learn from them to do better.

When we stop pointing the finger of blame at others and accept full responsibility for the consequences of our thoughts and actions, and the reality they create, we learn from our experiences and become Conscious Creators. Instead of worrying about being labeled right or wrong, good or bad, we get excited about doing the best we can with what we know and learning more to do better. We remember and appreciate how good we are, how much we do, and how well we do it.

When we choose to learn from our experiences instead of judge ourselves by them, we take one small step forward for ourselves and one “giant leap” for mankind. To live by value fulfillment and practice idealism is not only an opportunity for us to do the best we can with what we know and learn more to do better; it is to appreciate how challenging Being and Creation is for All That Is, not just ourselves. It is to see the magic and wonder in All That Is.

All in This Together – Partners in Evolution: What works best and makes us happiest in our oneness with and separation from All That Is, as both the result of creation and creation itself?

During moments of disaster and times of great stress, don’t we all reach out to greater consciousness, or our idea of an unseen “God?” At certain times in life, don’t we feel like we’re all in this (Being and Creation) together? What will happen if we think and feel this way more often? Will it change us? Will it change the world? Will it change the way we treat each other and ourselves? I think so. What do you think? Share your thoughts in the comment section at the end of this article or, if you have a lot to say about this subject, write your own article and share it with others. Writing is a great way to sort things out in our own mind whether we share it with others or not.

Here are several ideas to help you rise above the level of self-interest (me first or me only):

Seek the greatest understanding and serve the highest good. Be your True Self, the self you love to be. – Inner Self

Let love and understanding be the light and your way. Look for the largest picture, not the smallest one.

Wake up, wise up, and rise up to greater awareness and understanding. Move forward, not backward.

Here to live, love, learn and evolve!

Seek to understand the nature of Being and Creation. It is the ultimate frontier!

Here is what Unconditional Love says to me. What does it say to you? For reference, read My Encounter with the Energy of Unconditional Love:

“You’re delightful just the way you are.

“Nothing you can ever think, feel, say or do can keep you from being loved unconditionally.

“There is nothing you have to do. There is only what you want to do.

“All I want you to do, is be.”

In this environment of unconditional freedom, will we learn to accept responsibility for the consequences of our thoughts and actions sooner?

Excerpt from We Create Our Own Reality:

The challenge of Being and Creation is learning how to use the power of thought and imagination to shape the energy of ideas into a pleasing reality. The prize is a sense of satisfaction, the collective feeling of a job well done. Like learning how to walk or talk, it is a personal, subjective endeavor that requires creative aggression. It is a balancing act that makes falling part of learning how to stand.

In a value fulfillment world of what works best and makes us happiest, there is no right or wrong, good or bad; there just IS! There is the difference between what we like and don’t like, what works for us and what doesn’t, what makes us happy and what doesn’t in our oneness with and separation from All That Is, as both products of creation and creation itself. Besides making a living and caring for our families and the world, isn’t this what we spend our lives trying to figure out, how to create a life that’s worth living, how to be our true selves, the selves we love to be?

Consciousness or aware energy, individually and collectively, wants to know everything. It wants to be and do everything. This is the only way it can become its True Self, the self it loves to be. The only way this can happen is through free will, unlimited exploration, and experimentation in a universe of unconditional love.

Here is another area worth exploring and discussing because we all have our own points of view. While we’re here, what do you think about throwing out the idea of “debate”? It’s compatible with authoritarian systems that represent ideas like separation, competition, and survival of the fittest, an “I win, you lose” foundation of beliefs but debate is not compatible in a system whose primary objective is living, loving, learning and evolving – what works best and makes us happiest, in our oneness with and separation from All That Is, as both the result of creation and creation itself.

The Hidden Reality behind all Realities

Outside of this moment, in what form do we exist? In what form does anything exist outside of this moment? If you’re reading this article on my website, realtalkworld.com, then you know I publish material from Seth, a non-biological entity, channeled by Jane Roberts (deceased) and the non-biological members (purportedly) of the Arcturian Council, channeled by Daniel Scranton.

In December 1977, I read my first Seth book and it blew me away. I had never read anything written by a soul in human form that came close to comparing to what I felt when I read Seth Speaks – the Eternal Validity of the Soul that Christmas holiday season. I also hold vivid memories of experiences I’ve had in life and dreams that transcend most earthbound belief systems. For examples, visit Pete’s Story Room, under the heading: Library of Experiences. It includes material from lucid dreams, extraordinary waking experiences, out-of-body experiences, remote viewing and near death experiences from a wide variety of sources.

What do you think happens to us, the outer self or ego, after the body dies? First of all, we are not biological, we are psychological constructs of aware energy or consciousness. Stripped of memories before we’re born, or at the time of birth, due to shock, we are “personality energy essences”, a term Seth uses. As such we are capable of understanding and managing the relationship between the inner self, the body, and the world. Besides living and loving, we are also capable of learning and evolving as a result of our experiences.*

* For more on the self, read: Who or what helped Us Name our Unborn Children?

The Ouija Board is a popular doorway to inner communication for many people, including me. However, you must be clear about what you want first, otherwise, you leave the door open for any consciousness to grab the microphone who is attracted by your energy signature. For example, you may be suspicious and distrust experiences like this. If this thought and feeling reaction is stronger or clearer than, say, your desire to learn and expand your knowledge about who you are and what reality is then you may open yourself to a bad trip. It’s the same with hallucinogenic drugs, like LSD. You get what you expect the most so, be careful.

I met my over-soul, Robert, through the Ouija Board and, after that, I met Carl. Carl, in his most recent lifetime, said he lived in San Francisco and worked for a bookbinding company before he died and became my guide. My wife, Sandra, was my partner on the Ouija Board and, for a while, she and I, Robert and Carl had a great time together, until Sandra began to anticipate what was going to be said next. It frightened her to think these messages might be coming from her instead of through her from some other, more authoritative source. According to her: “Who was I to be thinking these thoughts and sharing them with others as if I knew what I was talking about?”

After we stopped using the Ouija Board, I began meeting Robert and Carl in dreams. Sometimes, they would be themselves and other times, they would assume the role of someone else, male or female, young or old, it didn’t matter. What did matter was the theme of the drama and what could be learned from it for those participating in it. Waking up in dreams and finding Robert and Carl hidden in other forms became my joy for the moment.

Not long after this, I began publishing a monthly magazine for Seth readers who wanted to share their thoughts and experiences with the Seth material. Called Coordinate Point Magazine and subtitled: “Where realities merge.” it put me in touch with other people in the San Francisco Bay area who had already formed groups to discuss and explore the nature of consciousness. Sandra and I also started a Seth group. One of my jobs as editor and publisher of Coordinate Point was to visit other Seth groups to gather stories for Coordinate Point. At the same time, Astronaut, Edgar Mitchell, who was the first astronaut to set foot on the moon, was forming The Institute of Noetic Sciences (IONS) in Petaluma, California, for the study of psychic abilities.

My long term method of inner communication involves staying in touch with my inner self, or higher consciousness, and letting it know I’m available for communication at any time, particularly during the night. I also stay open for other entities I trust, although most of all, I trust myself to know the difference between what I like and don’t like, what works for me or what doesn’t. In the morning, I lie in bed and open my mind and heart to whatever wants to share itself with me.

Now that my story (bed) room is filled with my favorite ideas, I look at what seems to want my attention most. In other words, I let my “idea” friends talk to me and I listen to them. They are my friends so why shouldn’t I listen to and talk to them? The amount of love and understanding I have received through this process over the years astounds and inspires me. Without the Seth books and my desire to expand awareness and understanding, I would never have been able to imagine ideas like those in my story room now, including the article like the one below, In the Beginning there was Nothing.

This story of origin is what works best and makes me happiest when it comes to understanding the nature of being and creation because it allows me to feel as though I’m a part of All That Is and apart from It, at the same time. It also allows me to be both a product of creation and creation itself. Since aware energy or consciousness is the source and substance of All That Is, I’m able to explore and experience everything in the process of fulfilling my greatest possible potential. Can you see this? Can you feel it in yourself? If nothing else, this story of origin inspires me and fills me with hope.

Excerpt from In the Beginning there was Nothing. From Pete’s Story Room, under the heading: My Favorite Story of how All That Is came into Being.

*****

In the beginning, there was nothing – until Nothing realized it was Something! After all, how can “nothing” exist without Something to define it? Sound hokey? Yeah! But it makes sense to me based on my own experiences and I’m sticking with it for now until something better turns up!

Suddenly, with this one shocking revelation, “nothing”, which was now both Nothing and Something, came to life, making it possible for Anything and Everything to exist!

This profound event can be defined as the Birth of Original Thought, the Divine Spark of Creation, the First Vibration of Thought, Feeling, Action, and reaction, the First Impulse to Be and Create, the First Response to the Promise of Being and Creation, the Birth of Unconditional Love, the Birth of All That Is, the Birth of One and Zero (1 and 0, on and off, yes, no, and maybe, oneness and individuality, self and other) the Birth of God, Allah, or the concept of a Supreme Being.

We can also think of this defining moment as the Birth of Consciousness or Aware Energy, whose nature it is to conceive and perceive – to think, feel, act and react. In theory, it was, and is, ALL these things and more, including the moment Self-Aware Energy or Consciousness learned how to condense a portion of itself into what we, in human form, call “matter.”

To be, we must create; and to create, we must be! One creates the other in an endless dance of quantum entanglement.

To think and feel, we must be able to act and react. To act and react, we must be able to think and feel.

What is the Smallest Common Denominator of All That Is?

The smallest common denominator of All That Is, is a single unit of Self-Aware Energy, or Consciousness (AEUs or CU’s), capable of thinking, feeling, acting and reacting to some degree. Whether we see ourselves as a single unit of consciousness in this moment and part of a larger and more complex organization of self-aware energy in the the next moment, including the collective consciousness of All That Is, doesn’t matter. To create what we want, the outer self, or ego, pushed from within by the Impulse to Be and Create and drawn from without by the Promise of Being and Creation, must learn the difference between what it likes and doesn’t like, what works for it and what doesn’t, what makes it happy and what doesn’t, in its oneness with and separation from All That Is, as both the result of creation and as creation itself.

The Invisible Reality Behind Reality

Behind limited worldviews like Dominionism, Stewardship, and All in this together – Partners in evolution, there is a larger worldview or organizing principle. It is The Invisible Reality Behind Reality. Think about all of humanity, with all of its different people and systems of belief. Each one, whether we’re consciously aware of it or not, is busy exploring the differences between what we like and don’t like, what works for us and what doesn’t, what makes us happy and what doesn’t, in an effort to create what we want. During this process, we learn that every thought is a suggestion, a blueprint for action, and every action is a choice with consequences we like or don’t like and everything in between. Our goal then is to learn what works best and makes us happiest in the creation of our personal and shared reality. When an idea no longer works for us or makes us unhappy, we want to know how to replace it with something that does work better and makes us happier. It’s the only way for us to become more of who we are and who we love to be.

In this story, there are times when we paint ourselves into such dark corners, one lifetime is not enough to understand what brought us there. It may take many lifetimes to fathom and move beyond a particular dilemma or challenge. But, as multidimensional, vibrational Beings of Aware Energy, this is what Being and Creation is all about – living, loving, learning and evolving. I don’t know about you but, for me, this is what works best and makes me happiest. It makes my life here, in human form, worth living!

For reference, read: Seth on the Reality behind Reality where he talks about various levels of consciousness, each supporting the other. Here’s an excerpt:

Seth: “Now some of those within your reality are having their first experience with an ego as you think of it. Others are returning to it, the system, in an effort to learn more. There are guardians, so to speak, within your system, reincarnated for the last time to help keep it in some kind of order while the others mature. There are also some, not physical, who keep an eye out over the whole proceedings.”

You were Chosen Before You were Born ∞The 9 D Arcturian Council

The Ball of Light – A Lucid Dream about the Nature of Being and Creation gives you an idea of what each of us can do behind the scenes in dreams and altered states of consciousness, if we choose to explore them.

What I Learned in Catholic School

My Recurring Superman Nightmare – a great drama of patience and love in helping us find our way.

All of these experiences speak of a much larger reality behind this one. To open ourselves up to it is to expand awareness and understanding of ourselves and All That Is.

Did we choose to become human beings for an opportunity to learn or are we thrown into life to sink or swim so All That Is can fulfill its greatest potential? I suspect it’s a mixture of both. What do your thoughts on this?

The articles links above make it clear that we’re all at different stages of development and there is a need for a mixture of belief systems to enrich and challenge us. Without challenges, how can we evolve? As part Dominionist, part Steward, part All in this together – Partners in evolution and part Reality behind reality we have a broad spectrum of ideas to explore and play with. This, in turn, provides us with a large number of challenges to face, overcome, and learn from. What draws us to dominionism, stewardship, or the idea of being all in this together? I think it’s a matter of how much we allow ourselves to buy into ideas that reflect fear and survival as opposed to love and creation. What do you think? Do this scenario hold any meaning for you?

According to the Arcturian Council (under the menu heading: The Alien Perspective, above), Earth is the most challenging place to be in the universe today. As a result, we are being watched and helped by advanced beings from other galaxies, those who are not presently in material form, and those forms of consciousness that have never experienced materiality. Their objective, according to the Arcturian Council, is to learn from our experiences as well as help us make a peaceful transition from our current level of understanding to a higher one.

Why? Because, if they can be reminded of what they don’t like by tuning into and learning from our experiences, they won’t have to relive them themselves. It’s like you and me watching dramas onstage or on TV. As we sit in the audience or our living room, we get to see other people act out unpleasant or unwanted situations we may have found ourselves in at one time or another, in the past. This way, we don’t have to relive them firsthand to remember them. Also, we know most actors in plays and movies, don’t die in human form as a result of their experience. Yes, being and creation seems a lot like on-the-job learning, whether we’re in material form or not.

What are we trying to teach ourselves?
What do we want to learn?

Does God, or the collective consciousness of All That Is, care more about how much we suffer from the consequences of our thoughts and experiences or how much we learn and evolve as a result of them? I suspect that God cares very much about how much we suffer, but he cares more about how much we learn and evolve from our experiences. Imagine that you’re God, or the collective Consciousness of All That Is; how would you set the stage for the greatest possible fulfillment of your potential? To give yourself a boost, ask yourself: as a multidimensional, vibrational being of aware energy, or consciousness in human form, how would I set the stage for the greatest possible fulfillment of my potential, in my oneness with and separation from All That Is, as both a product of creation and creation itself?

In The Story of Creation cited in Christian, Jewish, and Islamic bibles, Adam and Eve each took a bite of the fruit from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil in the middle of the Garden of Eden. They did it against God’s express Command not to eat fruit from this tree, “for in the day that you eat of it you shall die.” – Chapter 2, Verse 2:17. What is interesting is that He only gave names to two trees, the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil and the Tree of Life. He also made it a point to let Adam and Eve know that both trees were located in the middle of the garden.

As the story goes, after God learned that Adam and Eve ate of the fruit from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil, He clothed them with skins, told them how punishing life outside of Eden would be, then kicked them out, never to return. Whether this story is true or hypothetical doesn’t matter. It still tells us much about ourselves and the role of choice-making in Being and Creation.

Here are direct quotes about this part of the story. They are taken from the Vatican version of the Story of Creation in Genesis, the first book in the Old Testament.

Chapter 2: (As the Story of Creation unfolds):

[2:9] Out of the ground the LORD God made to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight and good for food, the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
[2:15] The LORD God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to till it and keep it.
[2:16] And the LORD God commanded the man, “You may freely eat of every tree of the garden;
[2:17] but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall die.”

Chapter 3: (After Eve is created out of one of Adam’s ribs):

[3:1] Now the serpent was more crafty than any other wild animal that the LORD God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God say, ‘You shall not eat from any tree in the garden’?”
[3:2] The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat of the fruit of the trees in the garden;
[3:3] but God said, ‘You shall not eat of the fruit of the tree that is in the middle of the garden, nor shall you touch it, or you shall die. ‘”
[3:4] But the serpent said to the woman, “You will not die;
[3:5] for God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”

(Later, in chapter 3, we deal with the consequences of Adam and Eve’s disobedience):

[3:6] So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate; and she also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate.
[3:7] Then the eyes of both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made loincloths for themselves.
[3:8] They heard the sound of the LORD God walking in the garden at the time of the evening breeze, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God among the trees of the garden.
[3:9] But the LORD God called to the man, and said to him, “Where are you?”
[3:10] He said, “I heard the sound of you in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.”
[3:11] He said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree of which I commanded you not to eat?”
[3:12] The man said, “The woman whom you gave to be with me, she gave me fruit from the tree, and I ate.”
[3:13] Then the LORD God said to the woman, “What is this that you have done?” The woman said, “The serpent tricked me, and I ate.”
[3:14] The LORD God said to the serpent, “Because you have done this, cursed are you among all animals and among all wild creatures; upon your belly you shall go, and dust you shall eat all the days of your life.
[3:15] I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will strike your head, and you will strike his heel.”
[3:16] To the woman he said, “I will greatly increase your pangs in childbearing; in pain you shall bring forth children, yet your desire shall be for your husband, and he shall rule over you.”
[3:17] And to the man he said, “Because you have listened to the voice of your wife, and have eaten of the tree about which I commanded you, ‘You shall not eat of it,’ cursed is the ground because of you; in toil you shall eat of it all the days of your life;
[3:18] thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you; and you shall eat the plants of the field.
[3:19] By the sweat of your face you shall eat bread until you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken; you are dust, and to dust you shall return.”
[3:20] The man named his wife Eve, because she was the mother of all living.
[3:21] And the LORD God made garments of skins for the man and for his wife, and clothed them.
[3:22] Then the LORD God said, “See, the man has become like one of us, knowing good and evil; and now, he might reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life, and eat, and live forever”–
[3:23] therefore the LORD God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from which he was taken.
[3:24] He drove out the man; and at the east of the garden of Eden he placed the cherubim, and a sword flaming and turning to guard the way to the tree of life.

Again, if you were God, or the Collective Consciousness of All That Is, how would you set the stage for the greatest possible fulfillment of your potential? Would you care more about how much you suffer or how much you learn as a result of your experiences? As a being of aware energy that transforms the energy of ideas into dramas of every type through your thoughts, feelings, actions and reactions, is it possible for you or me to truly die?

When you look at the world through someone else’s eyes, can you see that life is just as challenging for them as it is for you? Can you see that we’re all doing the best we can with what we know and learning more to do better? Until I could understand this, I couldn’t forgive those who judged me or found me wanting, especially myself. I was like a broken record with the needle stuck in the same groove. I stewed in my own juices of anger and frustration, born out of self-judgment, judgment by others and the demands and expectations of living in a material world. Without understanding, forgiveness, and love in our hearts, how can we change the picture we see of the world? How can we change the way we are? How can we move forward?

Once I could admit to myself that life is just as challenging for others as it was for me, and that my parents were doing the best they could with what they knew (see The Healing Power of Forgiveness), I couldn’t help but love and forgive them. I couldn’t help but forgive myself. By ending my habit of expecting, demanding, and judging, I freed myself to see the good things my parents and others did for me then. When we free ourselves of judgment, we free ourselves to see and appreciate how good we are, how much we do and how well we do it. If my My Encounter with the Energy of Unconditional Love is any indication, we’re all trying to do the best we can with what we know and learn more to do better. It’s one of those things we know intuitively but not consciously. Isn’t it time to change that?
